This is my Story
Â
From a young age I was disgusted with my body. Negative self-talk ruled my life until my mid-20s. Practicing mindful eating gave me freedom like I had never dreamed existed.Â
The impact mindfulness practice can have in your life is something you need to experience for yourself. I hope you allow me to guide you in your journey and provide the support you need to to make it stick.Â
May you learn to embrace Your BEAUTIFUL Mess!
More about Julia...
Â
Julia is a former emotional eater turned dietitian, author, and motivational speaker. She healed her relationship with food using mindfulness practice over 15 years ago, losing over 100 pounds in the process. Her journey inspired her to help others work towards improved health and wellness.Â
Early in her career Julia’s passion for helping others to restore their health caused her to switch gears in training from chemistry to nutrition. Although those fields may seem unrelated, the study of biochemistry includes how the food we eat is broken down in the body, used for energy and built into whatever it needs. She taught at Marywood University in the Science and Nutrition Departments while studying to become a dietitian.
Julia worked for Geisinger Medical Center (Danville, PA) for five years as a clinical dietitian, which included educating adults about weight loss, diabetes, and disordered eating. In 2017, shortly after opening her private practice and publishing her memoir/self-growth book “What You’re Looking for is Not in the Fridge!: How I Found Myself When I Stopped Looking There”, she suffered from a concussion that left her with severe symptoms for several years to follow. Mindfulness practice helped her get through that experience, as it has with every bump in the road. This gave her plenty of fuel for memoir number two in process, titled “Failure to Load…: My Messy, Beautiful Journey Back to Myself.” She has led over fifty seminars on how to build a healthier relationship with food in professional and community settings, including support groups, hospital grand rounds, and during conferences for dietitians and other health professionals. Â
Julia is a fitness enthusiast and held certification as a personal trainer in 2017. She completed four half marathons, four sprint triathlons and dozens of 5ks over the years. Julia enjoys hanging out with her husband and her family and friends. She loves to sing, dance, meditate, and practice yoga. She finds peace outside in nature, often taking photos of the surrounding beauty.
